Learn the basic you need to have a successful overnight journey along the river. We impart some of the tricks of the trade for packing and rigging. Learn the do's and dont's.
We will go through basic skills review, packing your craft, clothes and necessities, weather and planning, risk management and more. Try a few different craft and see how those in the know set up their pack raft.
We will start at Angusvale on the Mitchell river. Meeting in the morning to set up packrafts, pack and stow gear. Backpacks are a must. We will pack everything we will need on the river for our journey. We will do some review of trechnique and river reading along the way, but will make our way downstream to the big eddy campground for our overnight stay.
Big Eddy is a wilderness campsite - so you will get the full expedition experience . We will aim to be in camp at by 4pm so we can enjoy the wilderness and camp lifestyle. However, there are many grade 3 rapids on the way, and lots to learn about river reading, saftey, how to the run the rapids and even portaging if needed.
The next morning will be spent packing up camp and then finishing the journey down the irver to the Glenaladale Bridge. The Amphitheatre rapid will likely be portaged, and this is a big day of paddling.
Some padding experience and hiking experience is preferred. Camping gear is not provided. You will need to bring your own tent and sleeping bag. We are able to offer some expedition food at cost- but upon booking we can liase to provide you with a packing list and essentials that you will need to supply.
